Whatever happened to those technology we invented as kids?

Whatever happened to those things that we invented as kids? You know: flying cars, robots that eat cookies, hover boards, jet packs -- especially the water jet packs?! Well, I'm already over two decades old and I have yet to see some of them! But hey, it's 2017, and there are disposable chargers for goodness sakes. Let's actually see how close we are to these four things.

1.) Flying cars. I'm not talking about airplanes...

Alright, so this concept is still out of our hands. In other words, we're not as advanced quite yet. But maybe we have the materials? Just a few days ago, New York Times published an article which says that Apple received a permit to test self-driving cars in California. Self-driving cars are the rage for automobile technology these days. But it's still quite expensive for the most of us since it's in its beginning stages. For instance, Tesla is one of the many car automakers to made a significant impact with electric vehicles. Features such as AutoPilot, technology sharing and batteries, we're surely on our way to hover cars! I'm sure of this because livescience.com published an article where consumers can preorder their flying cars! Check it out here: http://www.livescience.com/58663-aeromobil-flying-car-available-to-preorder.html

2.) Robots. When will I have my own friend?!

We're not exactly to circa Wall-E yet, but we've seen robots quite a lot for the past couple of years. According to livescience.com, we're producing technology that "turns digital doodles into good old-fashioned sketches," to a "robotic Disneyland." Heck, there's even a robot that feeds babies their bottles.

Not a lot of consumers might notice this, but there's actually "robots" with us most of the time. Producers call these "intelligent personal assistants." Yes, these are your Siris, Alexas, Google, and Cortanas. Just by saying, "Alexa," or "Hey Google" will activate your "robots" into doing something you wish them to do. You can ask them a variety of tasks, from playing music, to even turning your lights on!

3.) Hover boards. Eh.

We've seen them. And we've moved on from them. Fast. Back in 2015, hover boards, which aren't really "hovering," were on the rise. There were probably 3-5 students I saw on campus almost every day, riding on their "hoverboards." But not anymore. Why? Well:

1.) They weren't hoverboards. They weren't even floating!
2.) You looked so silly riding with them around.
3.) They caught on fire.

They weren't safe at all. According to cnet.com, the fad had a dangerous side, which involved explosions and catching on fire. "Cities banned them from roads and sidewalks. Airlines wouldn't let you bring them onto planes."

With that said, no hoverboards yet, my friends.

4.) Wearable technology

I've talked about this before in previous posts, but wearable technology is so trendy right now, that we don't even know what else to do with them. Cue the Apple Watch! The Apple Watch was one of the products that started wearable technology, along with virtual reality headaches, activity trackers, and wearable cameras. Watches nowadays no longer only tell what time it is. The Apple Watch is also not just an activity tracker. From there, it can act as a cellphone. Yes, this means that you can call and text contacts from it. You can also activate your friend (refer to number 2. I know, crazy.

Let me know what you think about these ideas by commenting below. Do you own some of these, if not all? Did you ever come up with inventions that you made up as a child, and is now being produced? Thanks for reading and keep in touch!
